The first hurricane protection that is deployed from inside a building, WISP’s innovative technology starts with a sturdy 6-inch aluminum frame, then adds industrial-strength thermal breaks and an integrated storm shade able to withstand repeated impacts and up to 205 mph sustained winds. Attractive and easy to use, WISP is built to stand up to storms for years to come. WISP window and door systems can also be used every day for noise abatement and to help reduce energy costs.
The WISP integrated storm shade, built into the frame, is made of the same tightly woven synthetic fiber that’s found in radial car and truck tires. The fiber has a specially formulated coating to make it weather resistant, water repellent and pliable.
Metal and steel will bend and degrade with repeated impact while the WISP shade will not. The composition of the shade allows it to flex and absorb the energy of repeated impacts and wind pressure changes. Because the shade is inside the building, behind the glass, it’s protected from the damaging effects of sun, heat and salt air.
Laminated impact glass consists of a thick protective layer of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) processed between two sheets of annealed glass. If any portion is cracked or chipped, the entire assembly must be replaced – an expensive proposition requiring specially trained technicians. The thick PVB layer also diminishes optical clarity. With the WISP system, the protective shade is separate from the glass, positioned on the interior, behind the glass. If the glass breaks, the protection remains intact and the standard annealed glass can be easily replaced by local glazers at a minimum cost. And, unlike laminated glass, the WISP solution provides vital protection from flying glass shards.
Using the technology of our Home Manager ST® system, total control of your WISP storm shades is at your fingertips. Web access to the Home Manager interface is available through your personal computer or an Android™ smartphone, allowing you to deploy the shades on command or schedule them to deploy at specified times.
The strong 6-inch frame and storm shade system protects the interior of your home or property from water, airborne debris and sustained winds of up to 205 mph. This means no repair or replacement of water-soaked carpet, furniture, sheetrock and flooring. Plus, there’s no need to remove plywood or shutters from the building exterior.
The WISP built-in storm shade can deflect as much as 50% solar heat gain. When the shade is down, it will reduce heat transfer and heat loss to help save on energy costs. In addition, blocking the sunlight helps prevent carpet, furniture, art and other furnishings from fading.
The metal frame transfers outside sound waves into the wall, rather than letting the noise entering the building, resulting in much abated noise levels.
